On early summer mornings the villains are out by 7 am to gather sasae sea shells. The view is clear and the tide is low. Sasae are a local delicatessen shell, that looks like the big rocks that they are attached to. After drastic reduction of their number through excessive harvest from locals and tourists, they seem to have partially recovered. Local guards on boats are patrolling to avoid further reduction. Nevertheless, the elderly inhabitants below our house, do not seem intimidated by it. Sasae can be grilled and slurped out of their shell. It is a common way to eat them during summer barbeque. For raw sasae or sasae gohan we must separate them from their shell first (it can be a lot of work).
